Allotment - the beginning

Late last year I finally got an allotment after a 4 year wait. Unfortunately it was very overgrown and strewn with junk. It does however have two sheds that should be OK after a bit of TLC.
Here are some pictures of it from when I first took it on.

I've been hacking away at the perennial weeds and covering the allotment with weed-control material. I'm about half way through covering it up now. My plan is to cover the whole thing then peel back as I need space, eventually getting on top of the entire space.

I'm using pallets to weigh the material down (as well as hammering in pegs). I've also built a small compost area from pallets which is full of woody bits of brambles at the moment. Ideally I would burn them but we're not allowed fires on the allotment.
